About Us

Bettie's husband, Ovid, a semi-retired Baptist minister, writes theological books and edits The Biblical Examiner, and acts as Bettie's personal computer "expert (?)" and web designer. Knowing how difficult it is to find modest clothing, Bettie desires to serve busy mothers by sewing modest dresses that are both practical and pretty for their daughters. We do not make fancy, complex dresses, as our goal is to make affordable everyday modest clothing.

Bettie has had several "interns" over the years and has advertised through the Practically Pretty website. Young women have come to learn from her and her wisdom per the Titus 2 model. They have learned practical homemaking skills like cooking, sewing, gardening and managing the home as well as spiritual truths about being a godly woman. In 2009 and 2010, Bettie and Ovid hosted Bethany and Rebecca Stricker for several weeks total and invited Bethany to be part of the Practically Pretty team in 2010. Rebecca is an "intern" with Practically Pretty and looks forward to joining the sewing team soon. As 2011 is upon us, Bethany and Rebecca are working on incorporating new styles from more pattern companies so that we can further our mission in offering classic feminine clothing for women of all ages.

Mission Statement

Our goal is to glorify God in our work, and minister to the needs of women and girls in every season of life by providing classic, feminine apparel and patterns for those who would like to sew their own.
